ALERT ALERT URGENT BLOGCAST: OKINAWA MORE LIKE OKI-NAHHHH
hello family and friends… we come to you with an unfortunate update… WE ARE OUT OF MONEY! any donations help!
Just kidding! We had quite the eventful last day in Tokyo were we learned pressing/trip crushing information. It all began the morning before our flight to Sapporo (insert dream flashback effects)… When we arose after a peaceful, slightly backbreaking, slumber, someone, I Conner, got the smart idea to double check our baggage allowance (which then started this disastrous chain of events) although the booking.com app said we we allowed four 50lb checked bags…the Japan Airline Lines (JAL) website stated for domestic flights you actually only got 20kg total per person. Which let me just add in that Mer’s bag before we left was 60lb or ~26kg and we did do maybe possibly a little bit of shopping…..Who could’ve guessed. Needless to say we were kind of scrambling in the morning to repack our suitcases/backpacks, so we could ship our big luggage straight to Okinawa to hopefully avoid paying the fees at the airport which at the time we were heading to in 5 days.
Since we were shipping our luggage to Okinawa and not between places in mainland Japan, we found ourselves at the Yamato transport service about two blocks away from our hotel where a very sweet young lady who spoke next to no english helped walked us through shipping our luggage. Everything was going smoothly until she typed into google translate on her phone, and turned it around towards us… “There is typhoon heading to Okinawa your package could be delayed okay?” hmmm delay okay… wait what… a typhoon????? Why did no one tells us???? See, we had known it was typhoon season, and that Okinawa was supposed to get some rain while we were there, but we were not aware that is because a typhoon was heading to Okinawa the day we are fly in! We had already spent like 30 minutes talking with this lady who was holding off other people to help us, so I decided we couldn’t back down, surely it wont be that bad, and that we’d figure it out despite mer saying we could just run.
please use this brief intermission to read about the typhoon below.
oh amazing….
cool… awesome… yay
not sure if you guys know what a typhoon looks like but……
Welp, its looking like it is that bad.
was this photo mer took of her suitcase a premonition?
Thankfully our hotel was refundable and our flight will mostly likely get cancelled anyways, but 3 days to find a new destination/ book lodging/plane tickets and somehow get our luggage back from Okinawa since it is already in route………..
In other news…….. we are in Sapporo! Conner has quickly decided that this might be the best city - average summer temps of 68-74, The city of milk, soft serve and Sapporo beer. How could it get any better??? Stay tuned to see how his opinion progresses, as we spend more time here, and for whatever bafoonery happens to our travel plans.
